Problems With Your Range?

Viking ranges are built to last, but all appliances can need occasional service. Common range problems include control malfunctions, clicking sounds when trying to light the range, burners not igniting or burnt out, fuel supply problems, strange odors during operation, and display problems.

One of the most frequent problems that customers have with ranges is the dreaded “clicking” noise. If you go to ignite your burners and all you hear is a clicking noise, you won’t be doing any cooking soon. Here are a few tips to help you understand and fix your clicking problem:

  • The clicking sound is coming from the electric igniter, which ignites the natural gas emitted by your range burners. The igniter should usually only click a few times before the gas ignites. If something is wrong with your appliance, you may hear clicking after the burner is lit, or you may hear clicking and the burner never lights at all.

  • Sometimes an igniter can get wet and fail to function, making a clicking sound instead. If you’ve recently cleaned your range, you may want to wait for it to completely dry out before attempting to ignite a burner again. The problem may be that your igniter is wet, and it will work again once it’s dry

  • Check to make sure the igniter and surrounding components are clean. The buildup of grime and grease can adversely affect these parts

  • If you feel comfortable opening the appliance cabinet, you can use the owner’s manual to locate the ignitor and ignitor switch to attempt to inspect its condition. If it appears broken or burnt out, it may be time to replace. You can also check to make sure these components are installed correctly and tight in their fittings.

  • If your igniter isn’t working at all, it may need to be replaced. If you’re not comfortable performing this job yourself, it might be time to call in the pros.
